When patrons spend $50+ per ticket to see a play, concert, or show, they want to feel special when the evening is through. Sitting on seats with broken down foam, dirty covers, or squeaking seat springs or hinges can kill the evening. Often, seating that has been in use for decades is still working great, but just needs a little TLC. It is an industry recommendation that a “shake down” be done every year. Going through every chair on a yearly schedule, tightening every nut, bolt and screw, and checking the seat return, will add years to your seating, and lessen the chance of any seating failures.
